WRDW-TV
in Atlanta is reporting that former welterweight and jr
middleweight world champion Paul Williams was involved in a
tragic Sunday morning motorcycle crash near Atlanta that
has likely left him paralyzed from the waist down.
According to an AP story, Williams’ spinal cord was severed
after he was thrown from his bike and he landed on his back
and head.
Paul is said to be conscious and alert in an Atlanta
hospital and manager George Peterson told WRDW-TV that
surgery is scheduled for Wednesday to help stabilize the
healthy upper half of his spine by putting a protective
wall around it.
It was just confirmed last week that Williams would
challenge WBC super welterweight world champion Saul
¨Canelo¨ Alvarez on September 15 at the MGM Grand Garden
Arena Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
